Digital Asset Management Reading List Dec. 2016: Taxonomy, Hoarding, Innovation
Here’s the last month’s Digital Asset Management articles which had a lasting impression on me – picked from the constant stream of blog posts you can see float by on Planet DAM.
Taxonomy is a common theme this month: Taxonomy, Metadata, Tags and Controlled Vocabularies, an excerpt from David Diamond’s book, serves as a good introduction, as well as Christopher Gibbs’ Understanding taxonomy and metadata. Laura Fu has some advice on how to set up a DAM taxonomy. See also Ralph Windsor on Enterprise Taxonomy Management.
Ian Matzen reminds us not to be a Digital Asset Hoarder, while Peter Krogh recommends keeping everything. Whose side are you on?
Theresa Regli and Tony Byrne are having a half-hour fireside chat on the evolution of the DAM marketplace. In an article triggered by a new Brandworkz UI, Ralph Windsor feels that DAM vendors are running out of fresh ideas. But there’s potential for innovation to be seen in the webinar recording Semantic/Graph DataBases and the Evolution of DAM (featuring Censhare). And Nuxeo does interesting work – there’s an interview with Nuxeo CEO Eric Barroca.
Good stuff for DAM practitioners: Emily Kolvitz helps us track DAM engagement the right way. Deb Fanslow introduces the DAM Directory guide to DAM metadata standards. Henrik de Gyor has literally written the book on Rights Management in 2016. And Stuart Myles shares what’s going on within the IPTC, an important DAM standards organization.
The DAM community has so many interesting people! There’s wise words from Meghan Walsh (with a response from Ralph Windsor), and an impressive interview with Melissa Pauna. The most fun article about the DAM LA conference was written by Beth Goldstein who wasn’t even there.
DAM system screencast/screenshot fans, check out the new Brandworkz UI, the Asset Bank WordPress and Drupal integration, the Picturepark WordPress connector, Elvis bulk import features, Brandfolder UI customization, a ResourceSpace demo, and new MerlinOne features.
Enjoy the holidays; the DAM reading list will be back in January!
